Bernice Dorothy Lafleur

Bernice D. LaFleur passed away on April 15, 2016. She was born on August 30, 1919, in Sioux City, IA, and lived in Sloan, IA, Stratton, CO, and Jefferson, SD. She was the widow of Joseph D. LaFleur, who passed away in 1998. His US Army career brought them to the Petersburg area in 1957. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Adelor and Mariam Bertrand, brother Hubert (Bud) Bertrand, and sisters Margaret and Betty Jean who died in infancy. Bea loved to bowl and participated in many leagues into her late 80’s. She was proud of her many patches and trophies. As a child, her mother taught her to embroider. She spent many hours creating beautiful pillow covers and pictures, many of which she gave to family and friends. She was a wonderful loving grandmother who delighted in giving them “prizes.” She is survived by her four children, Carol and husband David Beall, Gary and wife Paula, Joyce and husband Paul Curry, and Donnie. She had eight grandchildren, Chuck (Katie) Schroyer, Caryn (Steve) Clarke, Katie (Matt) Lettinga, Janet (Shana) LaFleur, Robert LaFleur, Gary (Amy) LaFleur, Christin (Mike) McDermott, Stephanie (Jeff) O’Grady. She was blessed to be able to love and enjoy sixteen great grandchildren, Jessica (Brian), Charlie, Claire, Lauryn (Lee) Amy, Hayley, Kellen, Avery, Noah, Natalie, Sydney, Landon, Braedon, Colin, Clare ,and Garret. And she was also blessed with three great great granddaughters, Brinley, Cora, and Vayda. Bea lived an active and healthy life for 96 years and she will be missed. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park.
