Bernice Stout

Bernice Akers Stout, 89, of Church Road, VA passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010. She was the daughter of the late David and Dora M. Cawley Akers. She was the widow of George T. Stout whom she was married to for 60 years. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Bishop and husband, Roger, Doris Hodge and husband, Mike and Rebecca Chairmida and husband, Joe; son, Joseph Stout and wife , Kay; grand children, Troy Bishop, Whitney Ruddick, Mary Ann Pomeroy, Katie Harris and Hannah Stout; great grand children, Haley, Berkley and Nataley Ruddick. She graduated from nursing school in 1942. She almost immediately joined the Army and served three years in a Mobile Field Hospital that followed General Bradley across Europe. She absolutely loved nursing, almost as much as she loved baking apple pies with her grandchildren. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and a loyal choir member for many years as well. She retired from McGuire Veterans Hospital and then continued nursing part-time at Dinwiddie County Health Department until age 75. Funeral services will be conducted 12 Noon, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. . Interment will be at the Trinity Methodist Cemetery.
