Mrs. Bertha Taylor Black, 84, widow of James H. Black, Sr., passed away Friday, March 26, 2004 at Battlefield Park Convalescent Center. A native of Victoria, VA, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Amy Gertrude Douglas Taylor. She was a resident of the area for most of her life and was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her son, James H. Black, Jr. and three sisters, Maxine T. Morris, Ruth T. Gunter, and Doris T. Dickens. She is survived by one daughter, Jean Black Brockwell and husband John of Colonial Heights; two grandsons, Jamie Black of Leesburg, VA and Shane Black of Chesterfield; two granddaughters, Amy B. King of Raleigh, NC and Jennifer B. Bonner of Richmond; a sister, Helen T. King of Petersburg; a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends at Clay’s Rest Home in Blackstone where she resided for the past six years. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Southlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. R. Roland Powell, friend of the family, officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
