Bertie Smith

Bertie “Betty” Devers Smith, 72, of Hopewell, died, Sunday ,June 20, 2004 in John Randolph Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born in Bath Co., Va. and had been a resident of this area since 1955. She was employed by the City of Hopewell as a driver for Special Education children and a member of the FOPA. . Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, George Edward and Ethel Virginia Jackson, her husband, Norman”Smitty” Smith and infant son, David Wayne Devers Surviving are her daughters, Candy Devers Ezell and husband Wilson of Prince George, Margie Devers Smith and husband Jamey of Hopewell, three sons, Berkley P. Devers and wife Diane of Prince George, Michael E. Devers and friend, Arlene of Enon, Kevin D. Devers and wife Patrice of Prince George. Nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Virginia Jackson Shkrlac of Locust Grove, Va .and her step-mother Betty M. Jackson of Covington, Va. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening June 22, 2004 from 7-8:30 in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss& Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 23,2004 at 10:30 A.M. in the Funeral Chapel with Rev. DR. Alex Roberts, pastor of Unity Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Va.
