Bettie Roper Gaston passed away on August 13th, 2007 at the age of 92.
Bettie grew up in Petersburg, Virginia, the youngest daughter of Paul and Jessie Edwards Roper. She attended Bryn Mawr College and the Philadelphia School of Music and became an accomplished pianist. Bettie married John M. Gaston Jr. in 1941, and after the end of World War II, they made their home in Princeton, NJ, where they lived for 30 years and raised two children.
Bettie Gaston was a member of the Princeton Community Players, the Present Day Club, the Coral Beach and Tennis Club and was a dedicated volunteer for the Princeton Hospital.
After Mr. Gastonâ??s retirement in 1965, they moved to Weybridge, Surrey, England. Upon Mr. Gastonâ??s death in 1986, Bettie Gaston moved to Cohasset, Massachusetts where she lived for 19 years before moving back to the place of her birth, Petersburg, Virginia.
She is survived by her daughter, Harriet, her son, John, six Grandchildren and nine Great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 17, at Blandford Cemetery with the Rev. Boston M. Lackey, Jr., Rector Emeritus of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, officiating.
