Betty Birdsong

Betty Gregory Birdsong, 89, of Hopewell, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. She was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Before her marriage to Howard Birdsong, she worked at the Pentagon. Once she was married, she moved to Hopewell and began working as a secretary at Fort Lee. She retired from this civil service in 1980. Mrs. Birdsong was a longtime member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Wellman and Gladys Knight Gregory; her husband, Howard Slade Birdsong; and a sister, Norma G. Anderson. She is survived by a daughter, Marsha B. Brewer, of Hopewell; and a grandson, Raymond M. Brewer, Jr. and his wife Melissa, of Spring Grove. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia; with the Reverend Jeff Butler officiating.
