On a beautiful sunny morning, November 7, 2023, Betty Lane Robbins, 87, of Midlothian, VA, passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter Diane.
Betty Lane was born to Elizabeth Casey and Robert Lane Riggs on January 7, 1936, in Petersburg, VA, and resided in Hopewell, VA, until going off to college at the University of Richmond and then on to the University of Nebraska. There she met the love of her life Larry R. Gay. Most recently Betty Lane resided in Brandermill Woods in Midlothian, VA.
Betty Lane was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Gay, of 41 years; and by her second husband, Augustus Robbins III (Gus), of 21 years.
Betty Lane is survived by her three children, Robert Rex Gay (Robin), Diane Gay Pierce (Tom), and James Jerome Gay (Mary); her six grandchildren, Jeffrey James Gay (Lindsay), Thomas Wesley Pierce, Caroline Pierce Norris (Josh), Brian Berlin Gay (Megan), Jamie Lane Gay Inge (Randy), and Casey Christpher Gay. She also has eleven great-grandchildren, Rex Carter Gay, Pierce Robert Norris, Braeden Thomas McIntyre-Pierce, Libbie Garrett Gay, Hayes Phillip Norris, Alexandra Christine McIntyre-Pierce, Sloane Lane Gay, Riggs Christopher Inge, Eli Dean Inge, Wells James Gay, and Brooks Charles Gay.
Betty Lane and Larry moved back to Hopewell, VA, in 1967 when Larry entered into a partnership in a local business. It was here that Betty Lane and Larry raised their family and made lifelong friends for the next 30 years. Betty Lane was involved in numerous community and civic organizations even in her later years at Brandermill Woods.
Betty Lane had an infectious personality with a warm smile that instantly made everyone feel special. She was a gem of a person who appreciated all that life gave her. She would always express how grateful she was to have lived such a long life full of wonderful experiences, a loving family, and countless true friends. Anyone who knew her would say "she did life right".
Funeral arrangements are provided by J.T. Morriss & Son in Hopewell, VA. A church service will be held at the Brandermill Church in Sunday Park, Midlothian, VA, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow at Brandermill Woods Club House starting at 2:30 pm.
