Betty Jane Thompson

Betty Jane Thompson, 89, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Betty was born in Virginia, on March 14, 1935, to the late Horace and Elizabeth Hatch. She grew up in Hopewell, Virginia, prior to moving to Chicago, where she lived for the majority of her adult life. She loved city life and embraced the extensive shopping opportunities to stay abreast in the current fashion trends and design styles. She was known for her great sense of style and flair and would never miss an opportunity to dress to the nines. She loved her family, but also had a soft and kind heart for animals. Her beloved cats, Tiffany and Ajax, were both strays but were quickly adopted and treated as royalty. Betty enjoyed relaxing with family, friends, and her cats at her quaint lake house. Her family will miss her updates on political affairs, worldly news, sports, and most important celebrity gossip. Betty is survived by her sister, Edith Stokes; her nephew, David Stokes; her nieces, Elizabeth Branson (Lee) and Amanda VanVoorhees (Garret); great-nieces, Olivia Jane Branson and Gracie Leigh Branson; and her extended family in Chicago, the Thompsons and the Carens. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, 11302 Merchants Hope Road.
