Bobby Reid Pope

Bobby Reid Pope, 81 of Chester Va., went to be with the Lord February 17, 2015. He was born in High Point North Carolina on September 16, 1933 to Reid and Frieda Pope In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Maurice Albert Winpigler. He attended High Point High School. He was married to Sue Plowman Pope for forty -three wonderful years and they lived together in High Point North Carolina before relocating to Chester Virginia. They were always as one. He was preceded in death by six siblings, two survive. His greatest love and dedication was to his family. His life was driving a city bus, then for Great Coastal Trucking Company. His handle was" The Old Dispatcher". Bobby also received many driving commendations throughout his career. A career he loved for fifty two years. His closest trucking buddy was longtime friend Gary Lofland and Joan of Hopewell Virginia. He was known as the “Dog Man” because of his true love of dogs. Although, all animals seemed to be notably drawn to him as he could hand feed wild squirrels. His sense of humor, never ending funny stories and anecdotes gave anyone lucky enough to know him a giant smile and endless laughter. Everyone loved him and he loved everyone. After serving his country in the Army, he received an Honorable Discharge on August 31, 1961. He is survived by nine children, Bobby Reid Pope II and Linda of McKinney, Texas; Clifford Lee "Moe" Plowman of East Bend, North Carolina; Debra "Tennie" Vestal and Allen of Thomasville, North Carolina; Steven Orville Streight of Chester, Virginia; Linda Streight Ramirez and Steven Herzing of Richmond, Virginia; James Keith Winpigler and Necol of Chester, Virginia; Toby Shawn Pope of Greensboro, North Carolina; Kimberly Casey Fradd and Colin of Midlothian, Virginia; and Richie Durwin Pope of Thomasville, North Carolina. He was survived by twenty one grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; as well as his loving dog Bailey, who never left his side. A visitation will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 6-8p.m. at J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home Chester Chapel. 3050 W. Hundred Rd. Chester, Virginia 23831. A funeral service will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 10a.m. at J.T. Morriss and Son Chapel. Burial services will be private. The family will receive friends following the service 12:00 pm at King's Corner 7511 Airfield Dr. Richmond, VA 23237 Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
