Bobby Lee Sommerfeldt, 50, husband of Connie Lynn Kerr Sommerfeldt, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 1, 2006 at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Virginia. Born March 24, 1956 in Japan, he was the son of Laverne Sommerfeldt of Disputanta and the late Hiroko Otsuka Sommerfeldt. He retired as a Machinists Mate Chief Petty Officer with the U. S. Navy. A member of Wakefield United Methodist Church, Bob was a loving, nurturing man who loved God and all of His creatures. He was a generous and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was very young at heart, saw the good in everyone, and never said anything unkind about anyone. â??Bob, you were my best friend and I love you.â? Connie.

Bob is also survived by nine children, Jamie S. Kennedy, Stephen J. Sommerfeldt, Jackie Porch, Janice Porch, Jonathan Sommerfeldt, Christian DeCosta, Amber Sommerfeldt, Amanda Sommerfeldt, and Joshua Sommerfeldt; four grandchildren, Samantha Sommerfeldt, Hannah Sommerfeldt, Stephen Sommerfeldt, and Trent Sommerfeldt; and two brothers, Rob Sommerfeldt and wife, Diana of New Hampshire, and Don Sommerfeldt and wife, Lisa of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at the Wakefield United Methodist Church, Wakefield, on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. G. C. Branton, III officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 87, Wakefield, VA 23888. Purviance Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be posted at www.jtmorriss.com .
