Brenda Houff Pleasant

Brenda Houff Pleasant, 69, of Hopewell, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Houff; and her loving husband, Thomas Howard Pleasant. Brenda was a beloved educator for 31 years for the Hopewell School system. After her retirement, her love and compassion for education continued as she helped students earn their GED. Brenda loved to cook and was famous for her pound cake and meat loaf as well as her ability to feed a houseful of guests at a moments notice. She loved fishing with her husband and traveling. Her favorite past time was spending long days on the beach surrounded by family and friends in what the family called “Camp Houff”. She loved playing bridge and participating in the Appomattox Garden Club with her many wonderful friends. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and volunteered at Weston Manor. Brenda cherished her family and adored her children and grandchildren. She would always light up when talking about them. Brenda truly had a one of a kind heart who found the best in anyone and loved everyone.
She is survived by her son, Chad Pleasant and his wife Lindsay; her daughters, Janice, Vickie and her husband Kevin, Donna and her husband, Matt; her grandchildren, Kevin, Jake, Kennedy, Lawson, Brooke, Campbell and Luke; her father, James “Jim” Houff; sister, Carla Hastings and her husband, Ed; brothers, James Houff and his wife, Benita, Gary Houff and his wife, Connie; the Pleasant family; 10 nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 8th, 2018, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 9th, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2901 Norfolk St., Hopewell VA, 23860. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or to the John Randolph Foundation, 112 North Main Street, P.O. Box 1606, Hopewell VA, 23860.
