Bruce Darrow McLauchlin, Sr., 82, of Crescent Avenue, Hopewell, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004. He was born in Lee County, South Carolina, on August 21, 1921. He was the son of the late Horace L. McLauchlin and the late Leila Hinson McLauchlin. Mr. McLauchlin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Birchett McLauchlin, and two sons, Bruce Darrow McLauchlin, Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and David Wayne McLauchlin and his wife, Nada of Hopewell, Virginia. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Catherine Pond and her husband, Lennie of Chester, Virginia, Kelly McLauchlin of Lutz, Florida, Eric McLauchlin and his wife, Tracey of BelAir, Maryland, Sara Grissinger of Millsboro, Delaware; and five great-grandchildren: Laura Pond, Cadel and Caleb Grissinger, and Emily and Caitlin McLauchlin. Mr. McLauchlin is also survived by one sister, Elaine M. Lowder and her husband, Roy of Hopewell and one brother Carlton P. McLauchlin and his wife, Betty of Ashland, Virginia and five nieces and five nephews. Mr. McLauchlin was a charter member of the New Covenant Church of the Brethren in Chester, Virginia. He was a retired supervisor from Hercules, Inc., Hopewell Plant, after 43 years of service. Before declining health, he was active in the Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief, Hopewell Preservation’s Beacon Theater restoration project, Historic Hopewell Foundation, and the Tri-Cities Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of Hopewell High School’s Class of 1939. Mr. McLauchlin served in the Army during World War II as a medical technician. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Friday, April 30 at the Hopewell Chapel of the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 1, 2004 in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George County.
