Bunia Vester White Murray, age 95, of Matoaca, VA passed away peacefully into the Lord’s hands surrounded by her family on October 28 at her home. She was born in Cliffside, NC to Sidney and Mettie Abernathy White on August 27, 1917 and was preceded in death by her parents, all 12 brothers and sisters and her oldest grandson, Rev. Ivan B Perkinson.
Mrs. Murray is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, William John "Bill" Murray and 3 children; Dr. Kenneth H. Murray (Claudia Moore), Mickey M. Solomon (Rev. Dr. Donald Solomon) and Peggy M. Perkinson (Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson); 6 grandchildren; Sean Perkinson (Melissa), Janet Murray, Tonya P. Watkins (Mark), Christy S. Walker (David), Lt. Commander Brian Murray (Tonya), Cherie S. Ramsey (Dave); 21 great grand children and 8 great-great grand children, and many other wonderful family members and friends.
She proclaimed Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and always gave of herself. She instilled in her family this life of service and was privileged to have 2 sons-in-law and a grandson serve in ministry as pastors. Some of her fondest memories are the ones spent at Webber Memorial Baptist Church in South Richmond where she and Bill raised their 3 children. She was the matriarch of the family and loved by all. Her wisdom was only exceeded by her grace and beauty.
She enjoyed her work of 32 years with Miller & Rhoads at a time when one dressed up to go to work (hat, gloves, hose & heels); Santa was real and the Tea Room was the place to go. She and Bill enjoyed traveling. Their favorite places were Myrtle Beach, Peggy’s Cove, Bill’s hometown in Wales, UK and at the Scottish games where they dressed in the Murray Clan tartans.
A memorial service will take place at the Chester Chapel of J T Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Chester, VA on Saturday, Nov 3 at 2pm. The family will visit with friends and neighbors immediately after the service. Interment in the Perkinson-Murray Plot at East Matoaca Cemetery will be private. Condolences may be registered with
