Carl Vernon Carr

Carl Vernon Carr, 90, of Hopewell, VA passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019. Born in Laneville, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Solomon and Pheobe White Carr; and was also preceded in death by five siblings, Olive, Emmett, Edgar, Lewis and Johnny. Mr. Carr was a United States Marine veteran and had also retired from the Federal Correctional Institution as a Counselor after 20 years of dedicated service. He was a longtime member of the Hopewell Church of the Brethren. Mr. Carr was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Carr is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Rosalita Goff Carr; his son, Dennis Carr (Janet); two daughters, Carla Carr (James) and Cheryl Webb; a grandson, Travis Carr (Chrissy); one granddaughter, Julie Carr; two great-granddaughters, Brienne Layne Carr and Callie Rae Carr; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hopewell Church of the Brethren in memory of Carl Carr.
