Carl Coleman Guthrie, Jr. (Strap), 47, of Petersburg, VA passed away June 10, 2018. Carl was born on February 26, 1971 in Birkenfeld, Germany. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Kermit L. and Joybell Wheeler Guthrie, and Lil H. Roberts as well as his uncle Kermit L Guthrie Junior. Carl is survived by parents, Carl C. Guthrie and Bettie H. Guthrie, sister Dawn Guthrie Clegg (David) Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; and twin brother Timothy B. Guthrie (Alice) Wilson, N.C., uncle William Guthrie (Nancy), aunt Kay H. Bennett of Jacksonville, NC., cousins Lillian B. Saadatmand (Barry), Grayson, Isabelle and Afton Saadatmand, nephews Mason and Liam Clegg, Sam, Ben and Walton Guthrie. Carl graduated from Saint Vincent DePaul High School and Barton College, with a BA in Business Administration. He was also a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Carl will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit and for his love of animals. He was an avid fisherman and loved nothing better than a beautiful day on the river with his father, brother and many nephews. While our hearts are heavy we take great comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved grandparents. No doubt he has already convinced them all to ‘come fishin’ with him. The family is very grateful VCU Medical Respiratory Intensive Care Unit for their excellent care and compassion. The family will receive friends at Second Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 15, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m in the church parlor, followed by a celebration of life service. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 419 West Washington Street, Petersburg, VA 23803. Condolences may be registered at
