Carl Douglas Peters, 86, of Colonial Heights, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012. A longtime resident of Petersburg, he was the son of the late Willie Thomas and Helen Ercelle Peters. Carl served in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Marine Corp., and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer. He and his family were longtime members of Memorial United Methodist Church in Petersburg. Following the church’s closing, Carl and his wife, Joyce, enjoyed several years as members of Carson United Methodist Church, and after relocating to Colonial Heights, became members of Wesley United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Peters Wheeler and her husband, Robert Wheeler. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Bolte Peters, a resident of Dunlop House; sons, Tommy Peters and wife, Ginger, and Donnie Peters and wife, Terry all of Prince George; daughter, Terri Tudor and husband, Barry of Colonial Heights; grandchildren, Julie Branzelle of Dinwiddie, Barbara Holdsworth of Cape Coral, FL, Tommy Peters, Jr. of Dinwiddie, Donna Henshaw of Prince George, Christopher Wheeler of Richmond, Timmy Peters of Prince George, Ashton Tudor of Colonial Heights, Jeremiah and Zachary Deadmon of Prince George; great-grandchildren, Jamie Peters, Austin, Brooke and Cameron Branzelle, Thomas and Nicholas Peters. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 17th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Southlawn Memorial Park with The Reverend Dr. Deborah Fair officiating.
