Carlton Wilson Rives, age 87, formerly from McKenney, VA, passed away at his home in Hopewell, VA, August 31st, after a lengthy illness. Surrounded by his loving family he departed this world for his resting place, free of pain and discomfort. Mr. Rives was preceded in death by his parents John William and Olive Ferguson Rives of McKenney, and brothers John William Rives, Jr, and Powell Ferguson Rives. He is survived by his wife and life mate of 64 years, Grace Mallory Rives of Lawrenceville, VA; daughter Frances Rives Keith and husband Phil of Knoxville, TN; son, John Mallory Rives and wife Betsy and two grandchildren, Zachary Wilson Rives and Elizabeth Ashby Rives, all from Alexandria, VA; sister, Louise Rives Sydnor Metz of Mountainside, NJ; sisters-in-law Frances Mallory Miller of Watkins Glen, NY and Jacqueline Hardy Rives of McKenney; five nieces and one nephew. C. Wilson Rives retired as Director of Personnel Services of Southside Regional Medical Center. He received his undergraduate degree from Hampden-Sydney College and a Masters of Commerce degree from the University of Richmond. Mr. Rives was a World War II veteran serving from 1945 to 1946. He also served as Mayor of McKenney briefly and was involved in many social, church and community programs in McKenney and Hopewell. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hopewell. Visitation will be held at the home from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Thursday, September 4, 2014. Graveside services will be held at Asbury Memorial Cemetery, 20600 Boydton Plank Rd, McKenney, at 11:00am Friday, September 5, 2014.
