Carol Crosby Rollings, 84, of Surry, passed away on March 11, 2012 after a long illness. She was born in the Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN on February 1, 1928. At six months of age, her family relocated to Jackson, MS where she grew up and went to school. She furthered her education at Ward Belmont Junior College, Nashville, TN where she graduated with honors. She also attended Farmville State Teachers College, now known as Longwood University. Following her college years, she married Marion Rollings and moved to Surry where she made her home and raised her family. Carol was an active member of Surry United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Oliver and Letha Virginia Eley Crosby; her husband, William Marion Rollings; her brother, James Martin Crosby; and a granddaughter, Jaime Lynn Rollings. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, William M. Rollings, Jr. and wife, Lynn of Surry, Letha R. Hite and husband, Jack of Spring Grove, and Ida R. Lowrie and husband, Lynn of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Reverend Thomas O. Crosby, Jr. and wife, Wilma of Baton Rouge, LA; stepbrother, Larry Johnson; and sisters-in-law, Casey Crosby, and Clarice Rollings; grandchildren, Jeff Hite and wife, Tabitha, Melissa R. Keckler and husband, Jason, Michelle R. Keckler and husband, Brian, Richard Hite and wife, Rebecca, Joseph Rollings, Jonathan Lowrie, Heather Lowrie and Madison Lowrie; six great grandchildren, Dylan Hite, Peyton Keckler, Dawson Keckler, Tanner Keckler, Jackson Hite and Drake Keckler; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Surry United Methodist Church with Reverend Raymond Rowland officiating. The burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Surry. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, March 14, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T.
