Carol Lee Fuqua Synan was born in Richmond, VA on July 31, 1942 to Gordon Lee and Hilda Jukes Fuqua, and passed to her heavenly home on March 18, 2021. She was the oldest of six children – Carol, Shirley, Harold, Gordon, Janice and Gary. She was born and raised in the Highland Park area of Richmond, and graduated from John Marshall High School.
She married Harold Vinson Synan on August 13, 1960. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2020. She is survived by their four children – Mary Clark and husband, Curt, of Falcon, NC, Virginia Taylor and husband, J. Mark, of Edmond, OK, Vince Synan and wife, Laura, of Edmond, OK, and Joey Synan and wife, Ashley, of Piedmont, OK.
She enjoyed her eight grandchildren – Lauren Smith and husband, Brien, Elizabeth Ward and husband, Jordan, Justin Clark and wife, Mary Catherine, Lilly Synan, Preston Synan and wife , Maddie, Priscilla Synan, Chad Synan and Amelia Synan; and her eight great-grandchildren – Joshua and Jeffrey Smith, Jayden, Cazlyn, and Elijah Brown, Noah and Harvest Ward, and Miles Synan.
Carol passionately loved her family, and gathered them together for dinner and games every Friday night. She and Vinson loved opening their hearts and their home to friends, students and other guests throughout their lives. They also loved sharing their vacation home in Duck, NC.
They say that behind every great man is a greater woman, and this was never more true than with Vinson and Carol. He was known for writing over 25 published books, but SHE meticulously edited every one of them. She kept the house and the family together, allowing him to travel the world in his ministry.
Carol exemplified grace and genuine kindness. She and Vinson lived as extraordinary examples of Christian love and dedication to the gospel. Above all, their children and extended family cherish this priceless legacy. In the midst of our grief, we remember Carol with joy and gratitude for her life. She is the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman.
A celebration of Carol’s life occurred on Monday, March 22, 2021 at North Church in Oklahoma City, OK. Pastor Rodney Fouts of North Church, Dr. Billy Wilson, President of Oral Roberts University, and Dr. Doug Beacham, General Superintendant of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, shared in the service.
A visitation with the family will occur on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. Carol’s nephew, Rev. Bert Synan, will officiate at 10:00 a.m.
