Carolyn L. Tomko, 74, of Disputanta, VA, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014. Carolyn was born in Alabama on April 23, 1939 to the late William A. and Florrie Lindstrom. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William E. Lindstrom. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John C. Tomko; her son John Mark Tomko and his wife, Sharon; her daughter, Anne and her husband, Captain Edward Joseph Baron, II, USN. She also leaves behind her beloved aunt, Jane Collins of Carrollton, Georgia; her life-long friends, Jane B. Ruffin of Mechanicsville, VA, and Neva L. Farrah of Washington, D.C.; and numerous other family members and friends. The family would like to thank Billy and Mary Frances Tomko for their support during Carolyn’s final days. Carolyn attended RPI (now VCU) and obtained her Master’s Degree from VSU. She loved being a teacher and retired from Prince George County after many years. She was a member of Newville Baptist Church and Carolyn appreciated visits from Pastor Randy Hawkins and other church friends when she was no longer able to attend services. Carolyn also enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her cat. She was also a big fan of Gene Autry, who visited her in the hospital when she was a child, a story she never got tired of telling. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Newville Baptist Church, 7710 Beef Steak Rd., Waverly, VA 23890. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.
