Carolyn Anne Whipp, 71, of Hollingsford Drive, Chester, VA, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 12, 2016 following a brief illness. Carolyn was born February 14, 1945 in Hopewell, VA. She was the eldest child of the late Anne Whitmore Collins and Clifford H. Collins. She was also preceded in death by a beloved younger sister in 1991, Betty Jean Thomas, known affectionately as “Peanut”. In 1962, Carolyn began her distinguished career at Ft. Lee, VA, retiring in 2005 as the Deputy Director for Resources and Management at the Combined Arms Support Command. She served on the Board and as a Treasurer of the Quartermaster Foundation. While Carolyn enjoyed a very long and successful career, which earned her many recognitions and awards, she always viewed her two children and her four grandchildren as her greatest accomplishment. Some of her greatest enjoyments were collecting fine china, cooking, having dinner parties with family and friends, entertaining, and bird watching, especially hummingbirds. Her greatest pleasures were spoiling her grandkids and taking care of her family. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 52 years, David Lee “Dave” Whipp; two children, David Lee Whipp II and wife, Teresa Louise Whipp, and Brenda Whipp Presti and husband, Chris Presti, all of Chester. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Rachel Allison Michael and fiancé, Ryan Strotman, Casey Anne Michael, David Lee Whipp III, and Sydney Marie Whipp; one step-granddaughter, Melissa Presti; sister, Patricia Langiotti and husband, Edward Langiotti of Melbourne Beach, FL and Reading, PA; brother, Clifford H. Collins, Jr., of Hopewell; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, her YaYas (We are 10 in 1); and many loyal and loving friends. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M., on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service until 5:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
