Carrie Sledge â??Turnerâ? Cole, 87, of Emporia, VA., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 18, 2007. She was the beloved mother of nine, grandmother of twenty-one, great-grandmother of thirty-six, and great-great-grandmother of eleven. Born September 30, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Jennie Holt Branch. She was a member of Adamâ??s Grove Baptist Church, Emporia, where she was a member of the Senior Adult Class. She was a housewife who loved to fish and dance.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Wilmer Sledge and wife, Jackie, of Emporia, Vernon Turner and wife, Jerri, of Waverly; her daughters, Ruby Chapman Rodgers of Farmville, Flora Cutchins and husband, Carlton, of Franklin, Shirley Bradshaw of Franklin, Anne Jones of Danville, Josephine Turner Peffer of Waverly, and Jennie Holt and husband, Jack, of Wakefield. She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben Turner; a daughter, Lois Clark; and a grandson, Roy Clark.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, with the Rev. Elizabeth Wright and the Rev. Robert Chapman officiating. Carrieâ??s grandsons will serve as pallbearers at the interment which will follow in the Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, VA. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Cancer Society.
