Catherine "Cakie" Perkinson Vaiden

January 19, 1926 — September 29, 2014

Catherine “Cakie” Perkinson Vaiden, 88, of South Chesterfield, entered her Heavenly home September 29, 2014, also the day of her older sister, Magdalene Mann’s birthday. Catherine lived in southern Chesterfield her entire life. She was a faithful member of Ettrick Church, now known as Mount Calvary Baptist. During her younger years she served on numerous committees including Baptismal, Sunday School in the Junior Department and made corsages for parents on Mother’s and Father’s Days. Catherine was employed by Chesterfield County Public Schools Food Services at Ettrick Elementary School for approximately 45 years. She never forgot her humble beginnings and always did small acts of kindness for children in need. Catherine was a devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt. Her loving, gentle and kind spirit will live on in our hearts. Catherine was affectionately known as “Cakie” by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claiborne and Mary Blankenship Perkinson; husband, Charles Vaiden; brothers, George, Orbie Keeler, Carlton, Jack, and Lawrence Perkinson; sisters, Mag, Janie, Annie and Virginia. She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Vaiden Vacek and husband Gene, Kimberly Grace Vaiden of The Billings Home and her only surviving sister, Eloise Perkinson Swann of Mt. Airy; devoted nieces and nephews, Jeanenne Mann Billings and Norris, Lennie Pond, Dr. A. Wright Pond, Sterling Cummins, Amanda Wells, Larry Halloway, Becky Perkinson, Mary Ellen Perkinson, Jacquelyn Kreji, Timmy Sue Ott, David Swann and Scott Swann; grand-nephew, Marshall Carrington Billings; grand-niece, Catherine Lawrence Billings Burton, (her namesake); numerous Vaiden nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., October 1, 2014 at J.T.Morriss & Son Funeral Home Petersburg Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Her niece would like to thank the dedicated staff at Lucy Corr and New Century Hospice for their kindness and loving care of Catherine the last four years.
