Catherine Elizabeth Whitehead

Our hearts were saddened as our Beloved Sister, Wife, Mother and Friend, Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Coleman Whitehead, transitioned from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Friday April 27, 2018. Catherine Whitehead was born to the late Bolton and Elnora Coleman, Jr. of Prince George County, VA on September 7, 1949. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Coleman; maternal grandparents, George and Mary Alexander; paternal grandparents, Bolton & Elsie Coleman, Sr.; aunts, Emily Thomas (Roscoe), Margaret King (Horace), Thelma Coleman (Sydney), Elizabeth Smith, Elizabeth Glenn, Emily Peterson (Wesley); uncles, Lawrence Coleman, Sr. (Florence), Alexander Coleman, Sr., William Alexander (Anna); and in-laws, Lawrence Matthews, Isaiah & Jacqueline Davis. Catherine received her education in the Prince George County Public School System, graduating in 1969. She was saved at an early age and was an active member of Harrison Grove Baptist Church. She later joined Word of Life Center, where her soul prospered under the tutelage of Bishop Richard H. Cross, Sr. and Elder Catherine H. Cross. Catherine was the elected Chaplain of the AFCOGLO ministries for the last several years. She continued to be actively involved in church activities until her health declined. She was employed by Phillip Morris, on the night shift, where she worked diligently. Upon her retirement she received an award for serving just over 30 years. Catherine and Spencer married in a private ceremony, July 20, 1970 in Charles City, VA. From this union two sons were born. During their married life, Catherine & Spencer traveled to many places in the U.S. and Caribbean. Traveling, taking photos, and trying the latest restaurants were just some of her favorite pastimes. There were few trips or photo opportunities she would miss out on. When Spencer was unavailable to travel, her frequent companions were, Gloria Hewlett and Lucy Daniels. Catherine was always there to help those in need wherever she could. Her quick wit, smile and the elegance of her laugh will be missed by all who loved her. She enjoyed life and was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Catherine is survived by her husband of 47 years, Spencer L. Whitehead, Sr.; sons, Spencer L. Whitehead, Jr. (Amanda), and Markiee S. Whitehead, Sr. (Pam); grandchildren, DeeAndria Whitehead Mixco (Jaime), Markiee Jr., Markel, Keelan, and Spencer Whitehead, III; great-grandchildren, Deelan and Deelanis Mixco; siblings, Willie L. Coleman, Sr. (Dorothy), Ella Hill (Reed Sr.), Calvin Coleman, Sr. (Wanda), Sharon Matthews, André L. Coleman, Sr. (Linda), Sylvia Coleman, Kenneth Coleman (Deborah), Wayne Coleman, Sr. (Andrea), Terry Coleman, Sr. (Lakeisha), Garry Coleman, Sr. (Babette), Melissa Dennis; brothers-in-law, Carl Whitehead (Kathy), Bert Whitehead (Wanda), Paul Whitehead (Lolinda); sisters-in-law, Katrina Whitehead and Sheryl Whitehead; goddaughter, Chiquita L. Cross; devoted friends, Gloria Hewlett, Elder Mildred Johnson, & Elaine Davis; uncles, Roscoe Thomas, Burton Coleman, Sr. (Helen), Bobby Coleman (Mareta); aunts, Mildred Batts, Elsie Burnett, Margarite Coleman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
