Cecelia Moreth Callahan, 99, of Hopewell, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Little Sisters of the Poor, Richmond. She was a long term active member of St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell. Mrs. Callahan was active in the National Council of Catholic Women and several other church organizations. For many years, she was THE Altar Guild at St. James and in later years a member of the expanded group in charge of the altar. She religiously and personally kept the altar linens spotless and the brass fixtures shining. During her younger years, she and her husband loved to dance and were judged in several competions to be the best dancers on the floor. Cele was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. (Dutch) Callahan. Survivors include her niece, Beverly Baran of Winston-Salem, NC , one half-brother, Richard Moreth and two half-sisters, Delores Deloff and Marilyn Quariter, all of Syracuse, NY. A funeral mass was held at Little Sisters of The Poor in Richmond on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 11:00 AM. A Funeral mass will be held in Hopewell at St James Catholic Church, Hopewell, on May 28 at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at the St. Josephâ??s section of Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg.
