Cecil Clyde Canterbury, 81, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006 at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, VA. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 36 years, Bertha Osborne Canterbury. Born in Union, WVA he was the son of the late Cecil Crockett Canterbury and Alpha Bertie Martin Canterbury. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in World War II; in 1986 he retired as a Longshoreman at Nacirema Operating Co. in Portsmouth, VA; and was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church in Zuni, VA. having lived in Windsor, VA.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Michael Canterbury of Portland, OR., C. Richard Canterbury of Newport News, Jeffrey L. Canterbury of Chesapeake; one stepson, Tommy Edward Osborne of Pearisburg; three daughters, Barbara Gay of Florida, Carol Scott of Falls Mills, VA, and Brenda Cardwell of Lashmeet, WVA; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Dennis Canterbury of Union, WVA; and two sisters, Isabelle Canterbury of Union, WVA, and Agnes Bates of Covington, VA. He was predeceased by two daughters, Margaret Quehl and Kathy Stanley.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Zuni, Virginia, with the Rev. Rob Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends at the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss and Son Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Wakefield, on Friday evening, 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Building Fund, 37414 Seacock Chapel Rd., Zuni, VA 23898.
