Cesario F. Ferrer Sr., SGM (USA Retired), age 87 of Hopewell, passed away on January 7, 2014. Born in Balayan, Philippines, he was the son of the late Irineo and Miguela Ferrer. Mr. Ferrer retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant Major after 28 years of service, where he served in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He served with the Philippine Scouts during WWII. He was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell, the Hopewell VFW Post # 637, and the NAMR (National Association of Military Retirees). Mr. Ferrer is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Adele Ferrer; one daughter, Merci Ferrer Kessler and husband, Larry; three sons, Randy Ferrer and wife, Deborah, Dr. Ces Ferrer, Jr., COL (USAF Retired) and wife, D’Ann, and Art Ferrer and wife, Lisa; six grandchildren, Paul, Jonathan, Adele, Christopher, Brittany and Ariel; one sister, Esperanza Tortona; two nieces, Shallane and Christina; and one nephew, Dennis. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, with a Rosary service beginning at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, with Fr. Frank Wiggins, celebrant. Interment with full military honors will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church.
