October 24, 1939 — April 24, 2013

Charles W. Bowman, 73, of Colonial Heights, entered into eternal rest on April 24, 2013. Charles was born October 24, 1939, in Petersburg, to the late Charles Kirby Bowman, Jr., and Margaret Temple Bowman of Dinwiddie. He was preceded in death by a son Charles W. “Chuck” Lundie, gone too soon. Charles was Baptized at an early age at Main Street Baptist Church and he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scout Troop chartered by Main Street Baptist. In his youth, he was a life guard; enjoyed horseback riding; and he could dance. Over the years, Charles enjoyed memberships in Sons of the American Legion, Post #2, and in numerous hunt clubs, including Warwick Hunt Club in Prince George, Lad’s Hunt Club and Littleton Hunt Club, both in Sussex. He was an avid deer hunter, dog owner, fisherman, cook, C.B. Radio enthusiast, Ford truck driver, and NASCAR fan. During his career, he was an Electrician Apprentice, a Maintenance Machinist with Brown & Williamson for 23 years, and retired from Chesterfield County, Utility Department. Charles is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anne; and their sons, Jeff Bowman of Colonial Heights, and Eric Bowman and his wife, Brandi of Dinwiddie; and a son from his former marriage, Kirby L. Lundie of Colonial Heights. He will be affectionately remembered as “Papa” by his four grandsons, C.W., Chase, Ayden, and Brandyn; one great-grandson, “Trey”; and Chase’s sister, Casey. Survivors also include a sister, Peggy Belcher of Dinwiddie; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends. Charles leaves behind two faithful canine companions, “Hammer” and “Buster”, along with the family cat, “Miss Kitty”. He has had countless other great hunting companions over the years. Charles cherished his many long-time friends and enjoyed the morning coffee group, and trips down to the river. His memory will be cherished in our hearts. “to be absent from the body, to be present with the Lord”, II Corinthians 5:8. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 27, 2013, in Blandford Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com
