Charles Edward King, 92, of Hopewell, VA, died March 24, 2022. Born in Armuchee, Georgia, he moved to Hopewell as a young adult. He was the son of the late Arthur King and Salley George. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Charlie was a veteran of the Korean war, recipient of three Bronze Star Medals and a Purple Heart. He devoted many hours as an officer of the VFW, supporting causes to support veterans and helped establish the VFW War Memorial in Hopewell. In addition to working for Allied Chemical for over 37 years, he also owed a pet store and gas station. He was loved by children when he was the Ice Cream man. He loved animals and had many pets, including goats and peacocks. He especially loved his sidekick, Ginger. In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by his brothers, J.W. King and Arthur King; and his grandchildren, Kristi Cobb and Michael Newton. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marian King; daughters, Debbie Walls (Gary) and Sherry Meade; sons, Keith Cobb (Lynn) and Doug Cobb (Zoe); seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda Johnston; as well as several nieces and nephews. Charlie was a devoted family man. We are grateful to have been loved by such a great man. Services will be private.
