Charles L. Sipes

Charles W. L. Sipes, 92, of Hopewell, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Mr. Sipes served proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Medical Corps. He worked for forty years at Hercules Inc. as a senior clerk in the accounting department. Mr. Sipes enjoyed saltwater fishing and crocheting, especially afghans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. and Laura B. V. Sipes; his wife, Gertie H. Sipes; a son, Robert E. Sipes; and a brother, Garland â??Gibbyâ? Sipes. He is survived by a son, Jerry W. Sipes and his wife Cathy of Chester, Virginia; a brother, Junior Lee Sipes of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; a sister, Viola Lopp of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; granddaughters, Darlene Sipes Hughes and her husband Mike of Colonial Heights, Virginia, and Cynthia Sipes Moore of Roanoke, Virginia;daughter-in-law, Rita M. Sipes of Hopewell; great grandchildren, Ashlyn Belcher of Colonial Heights, Virginia, and Christina Moore of Indianapolis, Indiana; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Hopewell chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Appomattox Cemetery in Hopewell, Virginia, with Rev. Ron Rogers and Rev. Barry Ashbrook officiating.
