The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Charles David Murdock, 77, of Chester, VA, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014. A native of Petersburg, he was the son of the late John Andrew and Florence Williams Murdock. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Player Murdock. David served for 32 years with the 80th Division, U.S. Army Reserve Band, and was a retired employee of the E.I. Dupont Company. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Chester. David was active in the Masonic fraternity for over 30 years. He was a Past Master of Powhatan Starke Lodge No. 124, Blandford Lodge No. 3 and Petersburg Lodge No. 15, and was a Past District Deputy Grand Master for the 29th Masonic District. In addition, he was a Past Excellent High Priest of Petersburg Union Royal Arch Chapter No. 7, Past District Deputy Grand High Priest for the 6th District, Past Eminent Commander of Appomattox Commandery No. 6, Past Sovereign Master of Carl Frank Wood Council No. 200, Allied Masonic Degrees, Past Royal Patron of Harmony Court No. 11, Order of the Amaranth, and a member of Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Vanover Murdock; daughter, Jean M. Hamilton (Clay) of Altavista, VA; sons, James D. Murdock (Sharon) of Colonial Heights, and John A. Murdock of Chesterfield; step-children, Tricia A. Maslyn (Patrick) of Moseley, VA, Dewey Edgar Cox and Clarence Carl Cox both of Richmond, 11 grandchildren, and a sister, Patricia M. Leach of Chester. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with The Reverend Teresa Keezel officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
