Charles Phillip Riggs, 66, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on May 25, 2017 at his residence. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Harrison Elmer and Lillian Wyatt Riggs. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Winfred "Nick" Riggs. Mr. Riggs was United States Army veteran having served in the 25th infantry “Wolfhounds” during Vietnam. He had retired from Philip Morris after 30 plus years of service. Mr. Riggs was very much a Renaissance man who had a deep love for his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He was a very intelligent man with a great sense of humor. Mr. Riggs is survived by his loving wife of almost 48 years, Janet Martin Riggs; two children, James H. Riggs and wife, Melody and Sara Riggs Velvin and husband, Robert; five grandsons; three granddaughters; a wonderful nephew, David Christopher Williamson; one sister, Diana Riggs; a brother, David “Ronnie” Riggs; his four legged companion, Lil Bit; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home with his son, Pastor James H. Riggs, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the funeral home.
