Charles William Smith, 72, of Prince George died Thursday, October 20, 2005 in Hopewell Health Care Center. Mr. Smith was born in Hopewell and had been a life long resident of this area. He was a retired United States Air Force Staff Sgt. in the Air Police, a retired air conditioning/refrigeration mechanic at Hercules, Inc. and a retired maintenance manager with the Commonwealth Club in Richmond. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Myrtis Blanchard Smith and a daughter, Sandra Williams. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Austin Smith of Prince George, one daughter, Karen Smith Haab and her husband John William of Chesterfield County, a son-in-law, Jeri Lee Williams of Prince George, 4 grandchildren, Ashley Diane Haab, Evan Austin Williams, Addison Bird Haab and Elliott Andrew Andrews, 3 sisters Susie Anderson of Hopewell, Peggie Booth of Gainesville, FL, Alice Kovschak of Ft. Meade, FL and a brother, G. Melvin Smith of Dallas, TX. and his beloved dog, Rascal. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George County.
