Charles Nicholas Thompson, Jr.

November 16, 1938 — July 16, 2018

Charles Nicholas Thompson, 79, of Colonial Heights, VA, and most recently of Raleigh, NC, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018. Born in Kenbridge, VA, he was the son of the late Charles N. Thompson, Sr. and India Love Thompson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Marshall. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Thompson; daughter, Kim Thompson; son, Kevin Thompson and his wife, Jill; grandchildren, Kirstyn Thompson and Zachary Thompson; nephews, Le Marshall and Joshua Ramsay; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ramsay and her husband, Allen. Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 – 1966. He was employed with C&P Telephone Company retiring after 33 years of service. He was an active member of the Sierra Club in Richmond. He enjoyed photography and traveling. Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Southlawn Memorial Park.
