Poole, Charlotte Winfield, 87, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 23, 2013 after a brave battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Lottie Perkins and Gordon Batte Winfield, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Whitfield Poole, Jr., her sister, Marjorie Johnson, and her brother, Gordon B. Winfield, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, David Whitfield Poole, Sr., her daughter, Cheryl P. Umbach and her husband, Art, her son, Stephen R. Poole, four grandchildren, Kerri, Christopher, Jenelle and Rachael, five great-grandchildren, Courtney, Logan, Ella Idora, Lexie Lee and Liam, sister, Lorraine Winfield and her husband, Roy Hartley, sister-in-law, Polly Winfield, and daughter-in-law, Pat Poole. She was a graduate of Smithdeal Massey Business School and worked at Johns-Manville in Jarratt prior to her marriage on June 16, 1947. While living in Blacksburg with her husband, she worked in the Virginia Tech Agronomy department. After the birth of their first child in 1950, she became a stay-at-home Mom. She was a loving mother, dearly beloved by her children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at the Winfield Family Cemetery located on S.R. 40, five miles west of Stony Creek.
