On Thursday, January 19, 2023, Christine Avery, of Dinwiddie, VA, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully after a brave fight with Alzheimer's. She was 73 years old. Born in St. Petersburg, FL, to R. Craig & Gwen Rowland, she moved to Virginia in her teenage years, where she graduated from Colonial Heights High School. Affectionately known as Christi, she married the love of her life, Frank H. Avery; and is survived by her daughter, Amanda Avery St. John; her son, Frank H. Avery, Jr.; and her granddaughter, Avery St. John.
Christi worked for 20 years, as a secretary, in the office of the Quartermaster General at Fort Lee, VA. She also spent many years teaching the children of Rohoic Elementary School how to use computers, for both work and fun. An avid volunteer, Christi served as an elder in her church and volunteered with Limelight Talent and the VFW. But her absolute favorite job was that of grandmother. Her granddaughter was the light of her life, and her happiest years were spent with Avery.
A celebration of Christi's life will take place on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., at Bott Memorial Presbyterian Church in DeWitt, VA. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Crater Community Hospice in Petersburg, VA.
