Claiborne Woodrow Gettings Jr.

Claiborne Woodrow “Woody” Gettings, Jr., 58, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018. Born in Petersburg, VA he was the son of the late Claiborne Woodrow Gettings Sr. and Katie Woodfin Gettings. Woody worked for J.W. Enochs and was a very skilled, respected and talented craftsman in the construction industry. Throughout the years he taught many young men the skills of the trade. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be remembered as a great provider and protector to his family that meant the world to him. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Catherine R. Gettings; his children, April Leigh Gettings, Claiborne W. Gettings, III, April M. Shifflett and husband, Robert, Shannon N. Barker and Denise E. Drewry; grandchildren, Atreyu Edgwell Landon, Cheyenne Lee Gettings, Chance Allen Gettings-Picha, Brandon T. Goodwin, Corey S. Goodwin, Lauren A. Barker, Jordan N. Barker and Alron Lee, Jr.; a great-grandson, Corbin W. Goodwin; two sisters-in-law, Linda Reese and husband, Johnny and Janice Keyser and husband, Raymond; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in memory of Claiborne Gettings, Jr.
