Clara Weill Jennings Lewis Mayes, 81, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 in Hopewell Health Care Center. She was born in Owensboro, KY and formerly resided in Sutherland for 31 years. Mrs. Mayes was a member of Hopewell Loyal Order of the Moose, Woodlawn Baptist Church and retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co., after 31 years of service as an inspector. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Arthur Osmond and Hester Page Jennings, her first husband, Herbert S. Lewis, a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Lewis Whirley and Kenneth H. Whirley, Sr. Mrs. Mayes is survived by her daughter, Patricia Lewis Gay and her husband Gary of Prince George; one son, S. Wayne Lewis and his wife Peggy of Spout Spring, VA, 6 grandchildren, Rev. Jason Lewis, Sid Lewis, Pamela G. Tiller and her husband David, Edward Gay and his wife, Christie, Stuart Lewis, Kenneth Whirley, Jr. and his wife Diana, and 7 great grandchildren, Holly Wright, Victoria Wright, Austin Gay, Misti Gay, Amanda Whirley, Jessica Whirley and Rocky Duckworth, II. The family will receive friends Friday, May 28, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 11:00 AM in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, with the Rev. Kenneth Hendricks, pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church officiating.
