Clara Hunt Young, 89, of Petersburg, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009. Born in Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Belar B. and Mary Lou Henderson Hunt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Byron Young. Together, they operated the Corner Food Store in Petersburg for over 20 years. Mrs. Young was a member of Monumental Baptist Church for over 60 years. Her church activities included teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, serving on the treasury, Training Union, and member of the Forever Young Club. She was also active with AARP. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Y. Long and son-in-law, Edsel A. Long of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Christy L. Disher and husband, Robert Gene Disher of McKenney and Byron A. Long and wife, Jessica T. Long of Dinwiddie; great-grandchildren, William J. Ayala, Jr., Robert Gene â??R.J.â? Disher, Jr., Nathaniel A. Long and Shannan M. Long; sister, Maudelle Frederick of Columbus, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 12, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Tom Lovorn and Rev. Joyce Harville officiating.
