Clarence Odell "Pete" Cairnes

Mr. Clarence Odell “Pete” Cairnes, 91, of Sutherland, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018. Born September 10, 1927 in Dinwiddie County, he was the son of the late Charles Cabaniss and Emma Westmoreland Cairnes. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Thomas Cairnes; and a son, Clarence J. “Butch” Cairnes. Mr. Cairnes was a retiree of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company with 36 years of service. Mr. Cairnes is survived by his daughters, Shirley Cairnes Underhill (Jimmy) of Sutherland, Virginia and Carolyn Cairnes Meyers (Bill) of Henrico, North Carolina; three grandsons, Chris Underhill, Chad Underhill, and Nicholas Cairnes; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan Underhill, Parker Underhill, Mary Underhill, Anabelle Underhill, Abbie Underhill, Elena Cairnes, and Harper Cairnes. Mr. Cairnes is also survived by one sister, Alma Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Anita Meeks. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Jonathan Dundalow officiating. Interment will follow at Smith’s Grove UMC Cemetery.
