Retired MSGT, Clarence “Sonny” Harrison Carwile, 83, of Waverly passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Born December 28, 1937, he was the son of the late J.A. Carwile and Nellie Mason, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Anne Mason; and grandparents, Anna and James Mason. Raised in Stony Creek, Virginia, Sonny joined the United States Air Force at a young age. After a long career, Sonny retired honorably after many years of faithful service to his beloved country, receiving many medals during his time, which include the Air Force Longevity Service Award, Good Conduct Medal, and Commendation Medal. Starting in 1976, he served as a Deputy Sherriff for Southampton County. During that time, he earned an Associate of Applied Science in Police Science at Paul D. Camp Community College, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1978. He then went on to become a mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service, where he retired again after a long and dedicated career. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, enjoyed horses, woodworking, and loved to be outdoors working in his garden. He is survived by his sons, Marvin Carwile, USAF Retired (Briony), Ronald Carwile, Kevin Carwile; grandchildren, Jessica Bain (Billy), Elizabeth Weeks (Travis), Christopher Carwile, Kendal Carwile (Christi), Davis Powell, Dacey Powell, Ashley Cool, Parker Carwile, Victoria Carwile; great-grandchildren, William Bain III, Andrik Carwile, Tucker Carwile; brother, George Coupé; uncle, Gordon Mason; special four-legged companion, Sarge; special caregiver, Samantha Dodds; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021 in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Homes, 103 S. Adams Street, Petersburg, VA 23803.
