Clarence Edward Hammel, 90, of Richmond, formerly of Johnson Street in Hopewell, died Friday, January 9, 2004 in Beaufont Health Care Center. He was born in Sherman, Texas and had been a resident of this area since 1978. Mr. Hammel was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a retired auto mechanic with the U.S. Government at Bellwood. He was the son of the late Arna W. and Lizzie Lauk Hammel and the widower of Eula L. Hammel. Mr. Hammel is survived by one son, Stephen D. Smith and his wife Anna Marie, one granddaughter, Amy Marie Miller, 2 great grandchildren, Stephanie and Joshua Miller, all of Richmond, two sisters, Cappy Denecke of Indianapolis, IN, Harmony Pritchard of Sun City, AZ, two brothers, Donald Hammel of Booneville, IN, and John R. Hammel of Branson, MO. The family will receive friends Monday, January 12, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:30PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 12:00 noon in Bermuda Memorial Park with the Rev. Bruce Bevans, pastor of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating
