Claude Wallace Mutter went to be with his Heavenly Father on Dec. 28, 2011. He was born on April 10, 1919 in Russell County, Va., to parents Alexander and Martha Mutter. Claude served in the U.S. Army, 28th Infantry Division, during World War II, and fought in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star during his time in the Army. He later worked for Olin Chemical of Saltville, Va., and Reynolds Metals of Richmond, Va. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances Holmes Mutter; their children, Dennis W. Mutter and wife Elizabeth Cox Mutter of Prince George, Va.; Don R. Mutter and wife Carolyn Nuzzo Mutter of Chester, Va., and Teresa Gayle Chapman and husband Barry Neal Chapman of Alexandria, Va.; nine grandchildren, Aaron Mutter and wife Melinda, Andrew Mutter and wife Krystal, Matthew Mutter, Aimee Francoeur and husband Jonathan, Christie Chapman, Stephen Mutter, Brian Chapman and wife Jamie, Gina Cordan and husband Nicholas, and Philip Mutter and wife Tori; and seven great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Gavin, Tavish and Meghan Mutter, and Isabella and Isaac Francoeur. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the South Hopewell Church of God, 2300 Bluefield Street, Hopewell, VA 23860; with the Rev. Thurman Collier and Rev.
