Clifton Edward Land, Sr., 92, of Lenoir, NC and subsequently of Petersburg, VA, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Land; and wife, Wanda Rachel Thompson Land. Mr. Land was a member of American Legion post # 2. He served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper during WWII and Battle of the Bulge. After WWII he attended seminary and reentered the Army as a chaplain. He continued his Airborne status and completed 108 jumps. He also became a green beret and acted as their chaplain. He retired from the Army at Fort Lee, VA as a Captain in 1964. He is survived by two sons, three grandsons and five nephews; eldest son, Jacques Carre Land, his wife, Marie-Pierre and their two sons, Josselin and Florian, and their loving families; younger son, Clifton Edward Land, Jr., and his son, Britt Edward Land; and nephews, Douglas Land, David Land, Raven Land, Marcus Land and Donald Land. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Southlawn Memorial Park in S. Prince George. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T.
