Cynthia Royal Scott

February 17, 1932 — December 3, 2021

Cynthia Ann Royal Scott, 89, of Dinwiddie, VA, our loving mother and Nana, surrounded by family, peacefully went to Heaven in glory to abide with our Lord on Friday, December 3, 2021. She was preceded in death by her loving and faithful husband of 62 years, Thomas Berrimond Scott (Tommy); her parents, John Edward Royal and Ada Kirkland Royal Brooks, and stepfather, Lenny Brooks; and great-grandson, Trevor Scott Chaplin. Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Thomas Edward (Ted) and wife, Cheryl Austin Scott, of Dinwiddie, VA; and Berrimond Thomas, III (Bemmie) and wife, Kathleen Bass Scott, of Chesterfield, VA. She is survived by her cherished grandchildren, Erica Scott Chaplin and husband Jason of Dinwiddie, VA; Brandi Scott Davis and husband Daniel of Sutherland, VA; Berrimond Thomas Scott IV of Cape Coral, FL; Lewis Edward Scott and wife Niki of Richmond, VA; Anna Scott Bailey and husband Richard of Richmond, VA; and Anderson Royal Scott of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren, Hunter Scott Chaplin, Brianna Grace Chaplin, Danielle Paige Davis, and Thomas Austin Davis, as well as many close family members and dear friends. Cynthia was born in Petersburg, VA, and graduated from Petersburg High School. After marriage, she lived 65 years on the family farm, raising her family in peace and joy. She worked several years for Dinwiddie Elementary School and, later, retired after many years from Southside Electric Coop in Dinwiddie, VA. She loved history and reading, and she devoted much of her free time to chronicling the genealogy of the Scott, Kirkland, and Royal families. Cynthia enjoyed “just visiting” and being in the presence of her family and friends. She and Tommy organized and hosted many memorable family reunions for both the Scotts and Kirklands. She was faithfully devoted to her family and her church, Crawford United Methodist Church, in Dinwiddie, VA, where she organized events and sang in the choir with Tommy for more than 60 years. Cynthia also deeply cared for her dogs, collies, beagles and Jack Russell terriers alike, over the years. The family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers and support over the last few months. A special thank you to Petersburg Home for Ladies for the excellent care and love provided to her for several years and Crater Community Hospice for their nurses’ support and care. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family request that people attending the service please wear masks and practice social distancing.
