Dal Floyd Wooten, III, 79, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 after a long illness. He was a retired Professor of English and longtime chairman of the department at Randolph- Macon College. Dal was born in Kinston, NC on November 27, 1931, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and served in the military before taking his position at Randolph-Macon in 1958. During his 40 years at Randolph-Macon, Dal was well respected both as a teacher and a colleague. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Monnie; his sister, Joyce W. Witherington; niece, Joyce W. Mattox; nephews, Cecil W. Wooten, III, Andre Tennille, Jr., George W. Tennille, and Dexter Witherington, Jr. The family will receive friends 3:00 â?? 5:00 pm Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Ironhorse Restaurant, 100 S. Railroad Avenue, Ashland, VA 23005. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday, August 22, 2011, in Blandford Cemetery, with Chaplain Darryl Hedrick officiating. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 PM then proceed to the cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to Brenda White, Lori Taylor and Wendy Nuckols whose assistance in caring for Dal was invaluable.
