Daniel Dempsey Lewis, Sr.

Daniel Dempsey Lewis, Sr., 86, of Chester, VA, died on Monday, August 29, 2022. He was born and raised near Bamburg, SC and was the son of the late Ernest Lewis and Retha Hewitt Lewis; and was also preceded in death by a sister, Johnny Belle; and four brothers, Carl, Bob, Tom and Rufus. Dan grew up on the family farm with his 10 siblings before joining the United States Air Force. Afterwards, he became a union ironworker, finally settling in Chester, VA, where he worked until retirement from Local #28. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Dan had a great sense of humor, loved his family, and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but more than anything enjoyed spending time with family and friends down by Kerr Lake.
Dan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Lewis; two sons, Mike and Danny and his wife, Debbie Lewis; and four grandchildren, Zack, Katie, Corinne and Caston, all of Virginia. He is also survived by his sisters, Doris Irick, Louise Hughes and Elsie Fogle; and brothers, Jerry Lewis and James Lewis, all of SC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
