Daniel Lee Turner

June 12, 1976 — October 24, 2023

Daniel "D" Lee Turner, 47, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Edward Turner.
Daniel was born in Richmond, Virginia and attended Chesterfield County Schools. His childhood was spent enjoying summers with his cousins on the farm, riding horses, playing on the river and having fun. He participated in sports and did well in wrestling. He always wanted to watch his dad, and learn from him how to work on trucks, which he became very good at himself. In recent years he spent a decade as a golf course superintendent where he indulged his love of photography, nature and the outdoors. He had a knack with animals, most days ending up nursing a bird back to health or helping racoons escape a dumpster! His phone was full of photos he snapped of every furry, feathered or scaled critter he came upon. He moved on in 2020 and started a new career as an industrial electrician, learning the trade and working for ITAC.
He loved fishing, camping and getting dirty and hated to sit still and not be doing an activity! He had an uncanny ability to fix anything! In every job that needed doing he had the right tool and the right part always to hand. It could be the cog to a gear on a witch's broomstick and D would say "I have that part" and sure enough he did.
He had an extensive knowledge of firearms, immediately knowing the name, capabilities, mechanics and ammunition for any of them and would give a detailed description of the workings of that firearm to whomever was present. He travelled, and in his time took many trips to Florida, visited his mom in Alaska, went on an adventure to England and Wales, stopped in Iceland and cruised all over the Caribbean, snorkeling, ziplining, shopping and having a blast.
He doted on his birds, collecting an ever-growing selection of feeders in the front yard for different types of birds. One year he planted wild flowers for the birds, bees and butterflies and sat happily and watched as they all came. He adored animals just as much, and there was always a new photo of an animal that needed a home he had ready to show his wife. He brought some of those animals' home and they loved him as much as he loved them.
Above anything else D loved his family. A big kid at heart, there was no end of silly fun, adventures and activities. He and his permanent side kick, his youngest daughter Evie, shared an unconditional adoration of each other which made everyone smile. They were inseparable until the very end. One of his proudest moments was walking his eldest daughter Victoria down the aisle this year, and his life was made, when two years ago, his first grandson came into the world, whom he doted on with all his heart.
D was an amazing friend to people he met and very much loved by many. He would truly give a person the shirt off his back, without a second thought or expectation of something in return. He would be the first to tell anyone that he was flawed and had made many mistakes, but he also had a rare and genuine ability to always be trying to better himself with such sincerity and humility.
He began his battle with colon cancer in August of 2021. Straight away he was diagnosed at stage 4. He went through over 30 rounds of chemotherapy, 7 surgeries and many days and weeks in hospital. His strength, courage and positivity were powerful, and with his wife at his side for every second of it, his faith never wavered, not for a second. He took everything cancer threw at him and turned it into magic, spending the most amazing two years and two months during that time with his family. He did everything he wanted and more, and when he was told suddenly that there was no more time left, he accepted it, with the grace and peace of someone who won.
D is survived by his proud wife of 10 years, Megan; his daughters, Evie, Victoria (Greg) and Danielle; his grandson, River Woodle; mother, Vickie Pittman and her husband, Ed; sisters, Rebecca McClurg (Jason) and Melanie Carnes (Stacy); grandmother, Marlene Hart Mccormick; mother-in-law, Theresa Ennis (Jim); father-in-law, Peter Holding (Carole); nieces, Alyssa, Purdy and Lily; nephews, Austin, Tristan, Henley and James; sister-in-law, Sarah Tibbals (Graham); and brother-in-law, Alex Holding (Sophie); and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family and wonderful friends.
D lived his life with growth, strength, courage and most of all a deep love. Love for his family, friends and God. His battle with cancer was a source of inspiration for many who watched. He leaves behind many enveloped in grief from his passing, no truer sign of the huge admiration that exists for him.
His family will receive friends to visit, gather and remember D from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
