Darius Stanley Nicely, 90, of Hopewell, VA, closed his eyes to this world and opened them to the fullness of his Savior and Lord, on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Born in Clifton Forge, VA, he was the oldest son of the late William E. and Eva May Nicely; and was also preceded in death by his beautiful bride and best friend of 57 years, Helen C. Nicely; two sisters; and one brother. As a young man, Darius surrendered his life to the Lord and like a good and faithful servant, obediently lived his days for Him until his final breath. Having never completed high school, Darius fondly awaited this "Graduation Day." A proud veteran, Mr. Nicely served as a geographical map photographer and surveyor for the United States Army, having been awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his efforts during the Korean War. Upon completion of his service in the Armed Forces, he went on to achieve an esteemed 40-year vocation at Allied Chemical. Mr. Nicely was a long-standing member of The Heights Baptist Church, in Colonial Heights, VA. He is survived by his brother, Garland Nicely and wife, Darlene; his son, S. Kevin Nicely; and daughter, Kathy Nicely Dean and husband, Brad; two grandsons, Jonathan A. Dean and David C. Dean. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Crystal Edmonds, Penny Brown, and Britta Gilliam, who lovingly cared for Darius until the very end. His family will receive friends on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 3 pm - 4 pm, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, followed by a chapel service at 4 pm. A graveside service will be held Monday, January 22, 2024, at 2 pm, at Appomattox Cemetery, 703 N 21st Street, in Hopewell.
