Darlene Brown Cockrell

Darlene Brown Cockrell, 90, of Prince George, died on Sunday September 25, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ruth Brown, her brother Russell Brown and her sister Dorothy Vickery. Darlene is survived by her husband, Sherman S. Cockrell; four daughters, Candace Erbe, Darla Goddard, Tracey Cockrell and husband Jeff Wolf, and Patrice Cockrell; sister Faye Sumner; two Grandchildren Chris Erbe and Jonathan Erbe; four Great Grandchildren J.C. Cecil, Ethan Cecil, Julia Cecil and Elizabeth Erbe; and a loving extended family. Darlene was a homemaker, a businesswoman and entrepreneur, an avid gardener, a skilled seamstress, a talented designer, an athlete, and a dedicated and active community-minded volunteer and elected board member with many community service organizations. Darlene served as Past President as well as several other board member officers for the Women’s Clubs of Hopewell and of Prince George. Her volunteer service spanned decades with these groups and others, including the Nathaniel Cawsey Garden Club, Wonder City Garden Club, Hopewell Heritage Gardens Foundation, the John Randolph Foundation. And when affiliated with a church, she served with the Women of the Church and taught Women's Bible Study for 20 years. She was always helping and doing for somebody. She lived a life dedicated to serving others. She was the owner/operator of D.C. Interiors and Sew Country in Prince George, which many people knew as "psyche central" because Darlene was renowned as an approachable go-to person for comforting and counseling and sound advice and guidance for just about anything. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
